Spring Opening

Today is March 14th and for the second year in a row will be our opening day at Richter. We are not as far ahead as last year but all signs point to a great season on tap. The recent rains have made it a little soggy but overall everything is doing really good.

In the month of March we will only be utilizing Red and White tee markers and bunkers will not be maintained for a few more weeks. We will keep 6,7,12,13 and 15 covered for at least another 10 days and they will have temp greens. All of our attention will be geared towards cleaning up debris and gearing up for a busy spring. We would like to thank you for playing at Richter and look forward to a great 2013 season.

2013 GCSAA Golf Industry Show

These tools allow measuring sunlight, wind, ET, Solar Radiation, relative humidity and much more. I am sure a few of these tools will be incorporated into our program next year.

Winter update

Winter is here and we have been lucky enough to have snow cover going on 2 weeks now.  This is good and will help insulate the turf, especially the new sod on the tees.  The weekend forecast calls for warm weather so most if not all of the snow will be gone.  Snow is not our concern this time of year, we really only focus on days under ice cover.  Monitoring of the turf continues throughout the winter and everything looks great so far.

My current projections put us approximately 60 days from our projected target for opening day.  While this is a rough target date right now it will fall in line with our 2012 opening date that was March 14th.  Hope everyone enjoys the rest of winter and see you in the spring.

Wrapping Up

2012 is officially in the books and the stats are quite impressive.  We opened up on March 14th and closed on December 5th.  During that almost 10 month span we were able to produce over 44,000 rounds.  Since closing we have been busy preparing for 2013.  In the spring you will see many newly leveled tees, addition of several totally new tees and several holes of nice smooth cartpaths.  This will only allow us to reach for new highs next year and enhance the golfing experience at Richter Park.  I hope everyone has a great Holiday season and we will see you sometime in March.

Sandy Update

One year to the date and we end up with another freak October storm that has shut down Richter for almost a full week.  We ended up lucky at the course as wind was the main factor that caused damage, only .60" of rain fell and that was a blessing in disguise. Power was restored to the course late Tuesday night and that allowed the Turf Crew along with the Golf Operations crew to start putting everything back together.  Not feeling that we had enough on our plate we also decided to bump up the aeration schedule and complete the greens, allowing us to in a small degree turn lemons into lemonade.  As of today the course is playable, a complete cleanup will take a few weeks to pick up all the fallen trees but some of the pictures below show the course after the storm.
